Down-pour Decides Definite Draw!
By MARTIN CAUFIELD
A mud-bath at Hullen Edge prevented any play on what turned out to be a bright sunny, humid evening - as towels and garden forks fix f**k all!!!
Buoyed by a close run game against Meltham on Fri and the signing of legendary Slawit slogger John Keeling, The Oak headed over the hill to sunny Elland - or so they thought!
An earlier down-pour in the Calderdale Valley at about 3.30 (for 30m) caused chaos and ultimately resulted in the Hullen Edge ground resembling what looked like a mud-bath all across the square - with the top end of the outfield actually looking quite playable!
If U17 cricket would permit a full size length pitch but a 3rd of the usual width, we could have played - at about midnight - so the decision to hang on till 6.42 (after a call to Phil Senior to clarify junior specific waiting times - there are none!) was mainly as a result of a bunch of retards from Elland out on the square with garden forks, towels, bed sheets and face-cloths trying to dry the entire sodden square!!!
And I thought my lads were IQ challenged.....
Anyway, at 6.37 the game was off and 2 points bagged - with the might of Ovais (Rita Queen of Speed) and Walker (homework club) sadly unavailable, this was perhaps a godsend and enabled me to write up a few outstanding reports; as well as get some nice soup and chips down my neck for tea!!!
